Is There a Difference Between Asbestos Abatement and Remediation?
Abatement and remediation of asbestos may vary depending on the intensity of the asbestos’s concentration. One should acquire area-specific permits before performing any asbestos abatement or remediation project. Upon successful inspection and acquisition of the relevant licenses, one may begin working on the asbestos abatement process.
One of the most common practices in asbestos abatement is using what is known as ‘wet methods.’ This method involves getting the material that contains asbestos wet so the release of fibers is reduced. While abatement focuses on eliminating the presence of asbestos, remediation focuses on ways to mitigate and manage materials containing asbestos.
Remediation of asbestos may include ongoing management to ensure that the encapsulated, enclosed, or patched asbestos-containing materials are not damaged and that the asbestos will not pose a danger to human health or the environment.
